Devils Swimming Pool Victoria Falls

Known as The Devils Swimming Pool, this natural phenomenon happens every year between September and December and is a result of comparatively low water levels and the current not being that strong.

The Devil’s Pool is probably not as dangerous as it appears in the photographs. A natural rock ledge reduces the current and stops swimmers from being swept over the edge. It’s accessible from the Zambian side of the Victoria falls.

I recently came across Panoramas.dk which has an incredible library of 360 degree panoramic images of world landmarks, events and breathtaking natural scenery – it’s the next best thing to being there. Be warned though you might end up spending hours on this website and you ne ed a fairly good connection.

I would think that in order to help grow this library of images The World Wide Panorama event has also been initiated. It began in March 2004 and has become an ongoing series of events. Photography takes place on the solstices (longest and shortest days of the year) and equinoxes (day and night of equal length). Photographers all over the world are welcome to participate. The whole WWP now contains 4569 panoramas made by 921 photographers.

Surfing in the are is great as the waves will allow you to get used to the power without getting scarred up. After a week or so of this its time to check out the real waves on the bukit peninsula or even the coral reefs around Kuta, if its your first time on waves like this theres no need to freak out, I’d reccomend somewhere like Kuta reef or dreamlands obviously if its huge save it for another day.

If you are looking for something completely different on your next vacation then perhaps you should check out these very cool igloos at the Hotel Kakslauttanen. Sleeping up to 5 people per igloos the temperatures moderatet between 3 and 6 degrees celcuis, however you are provided with down sleeping bags that can withstand temperatures of minus 32 deg celcuis. The suggestion is to wake up each morning with a dip in the icy rive and then on to the saun situated next to the igloos. They have a bar made of Ice an Ice Chapel that is extremely popular for weddings, and World’s Largest Snow Restaurant for 150 persons.
